Panko is Japanese style coating crumbs used with fried foods. It has a crisper, airier texture than most types of traditional American coating crumbs. Great recipes start with Jason Coating Crumbs, so start cooking! Perfect as a crispy coating for baked or fried poultry, fish, meat and vegetables. Great for meatloaf, meatballs, stuffing and as a crunchy topping for salads and casseroles. The delicate flavor of Jason Coating Crumbs will enhance any dish.


Recipe Suggestion

Crispy Breaded Tilapia with Sesame Soy Dipping Sauce
(Sesame Soy Dipping Sauce is NOT Kosher for Passover)

To Prepare Fish:
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups Jason Plain Panko Bread Crumbs
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 4 skinless tilapia fillets (about 4 oz. each)
  • Vegetable oil for the skillet
  • 1 large lemon, cut into wedges

1. Line up three shallow dishes. Put flour in the first; beat the eggs lightly with a fork in the second; put the panko bread crumbs in the third.
2. Season the fish with salt and pepper to taste. Working with one fillet at a time, coat with flour, then egg and then the panko bread crumbs.
3. Pour oil 1/4 inch deep into a 10- to 12-inch skillet. Heat over medium heat until hot but not smoking. Cook the fish fillets until they are crisp, browned and flaky (about 2 to 3 minutes on each side). You may want to set fillets on a paper towel to drain excess oil before serving. Serve hot with lemon wedges and Sesame Soy Dipping Sauce (see below).

Sesame Soy Dipping Sauce:

Makes about 1 cup
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon sliced scallions
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted
Whisk together all of the ingredients and set aside until ready to serve.


Basic Breading Directions:

1. Mix 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of water.
2. Pour some Jason Plain Panko Bread Crumbs onto a shallow dish.
3. Dip food into egg mixture and then into the bread crumbs, turning to coat evenly.
